Importance of Computer Education in PS/UPS/High Schools-Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

The field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is evolving at such a pace, where concepts, technology and terminology are continuously changing. ICT helps to bridge the digital divide amongst students of various socio economic and other geographical barriers. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is universally acknowledged as an important catalyst for social transformation and national progress.

Information and communication technology which is a by-product of science and technology explosion has revolutionized the world of learning. It is very essential to integrate the IT with education in order to have the advantage of ICT education. Around the world, policymakers and educators have high hopes for ICT in the classroom as a springboard to students “21st century skills”—that combines the competencies of problem solving, critical thinking and managing their own learning is needed for success in the global workplace.

The learning activities through ICT make a difference. Students are much more likely to learn to solve real-world problems and collaborate productively with their peers, if their learning activities are carefully designed to offer opportunities.

As per revised education policy Computer Literacy Program in school class scheme has been introduced during 2001 by the Govt. of India. The main objective behind the policy is :

To create awareness among school students about the computer and its usage in teaching-learning process. To ensure full benefit of information and communication technology in their daily life and in education at ever level. Familiarize the student with different range of computer applications and help them to understand the potential of Information Technology process. Provide hands on experience to students. Improve the capabilities of the children in terms of their performance in scholastic and non-scholastic activities. Integrate Information Technology with classroom transaction. Under the above mentioned objective Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has entrusted the responsibility to us, to extend the facility of computer literacy to students of neighborhood schools. We have already implemented the scheme by providing our computer exposure/literacy (every year during summer vacation) to the 40 students belonging to ten (10) neighboring schools situated within the radius of 5kms. In this direction we are following a module developed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) as under :

  • Total No. of neighborhood school to be covered in a period of 03 years. 10
    No. of student to be admitted from each school for computer literacy programme. 40
    Level of student for computer literacy programme Preferably students of class 6th to class 8th 
    Course content. As per module developed by NVS, extracting and monitoring the contents of some computer text books 
    Proposed number of periods of computer literacy program to be extended. 75 (25 for theory and 50 for practical)
    Schedule of the operation of the program. During vacations
    Schedule of of period 40 days @ 2 periods per day
    Instructor Computer faculty cum system administrator
    Method of selection of students Discretion of the head master of the neighborhood school to be followed by marginal screening by JNV

We provide Uninterrupted Dial Up Connectivity TO OUR CHILDREN TO USE INTERNET FACILITIES, so that children can use their ITC skill in teaching learning process.
